Obit - Funeral home - May 30, 2024

Wieland, Paul E. age 77 of Louisville, KY, passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2024.
Paul was born in Dayton, OH to Bernard (Bernie) and Janice (Hoffman) Wieland. In August 1968, he married Mary Wightman in Illinois. Together they raised their children, Eric and Dana.,

Paul's life was guided by the values of family, integrity, generosity, and wisdom. He prioritized time with loved ones. He had a genuine care for others and often put others’ needs before his own. Paul never met a stranger and relished in conversations with everyone he encountered, learning and eagerly sharing his wealth of knowledge. He pursued wisdom through higher education, avid reading, and insightful conversations. His faith was an essential part of his life, beginning with his role as an altar boy in grade school at St. Anthony’s.

A lifelong lover of nature, Paul cherished camping trips with his family and children, and he found joy in hiking. As a child, Paul was a Junior Naturalist at the Dayton Museum of Natural History. He was a proud member of the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow and the Chicago Commons Advisory Board. Paul enjoyed a wide range of activities including watching sports, playing golf, weight lifting, bowling, playing pool, listening to music and attending concerts, playing chess, swimming, bike riding, tending to his fruit and vegetable garden, socializing, and joking around. He was always up for anything and frequently visited family and friends both near and far.

Paul graduated from Chaminade H.S. in 1964. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology through Wright State University in 1975 and minored in both biology and philosophy. He earned his master’s degree in education with a focus in orientation and mobility in 2008 through the University of Louisville.

Paul’s work history began as a dedicated newspaper boy, continued with jobs at the Dayton Arcade after school, and then eventually as a starter at a golf course. This diverse career path next led him to work as an operator at Standard Register and in management roles at a drive-in and large retail companies in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. This was followed by rapid success in quality and manufacturing management. When he moved to Kentucky, he worked at a law firm where he helped to set up a new library. He eventually joined the Transit Authority of River City (TARC), where he held multiple roles applying the knowledge he learned from his master’s degree. He began his well-earned retirement in January 2013.

Traveling was one of Paul's passions. One of his most memorable trips was traveling through the Northwestern US via train to an Alaskan cruise with friends. He loved visiting his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in San Diego. His last big trip was to Disney World with his former wife, their daughter and granddaughter.
