Janet Theresa (Davis) Harden was born in Dayton Ohio on June 15, 1946 and passed away on January 9, 2024, at the age of 77. She was a graduate of Julienne High School ’64 and Central State University ’70. At CSU, she cultivated lifelong friendships among the class of 1969. Janet was an educator at Miami Valley Childhood Development Center, Dayton Catholic Elementary School, and Dayton Public Schools.

Janet was a proud member of St. James Catholic Church and St. Benedict the Moor Church. Engaged in various community activities, she previously served on the Chaminade-Julienne High School Board and the YMCA Community Advisory Board. She also participated in the Rosary Club.

She was preceded in death by parents James R. and Mattie Davis; sisters Betty Allen and Mary Davis; brothers Robert, William, Rev. Joseph Davis, S.M., Andrew, Mark, and F. Michael Davis; and loving partner Dr. James "Doc" Mathews. Janet is survived by her children Calista (Anthony) Smith, Charles Jr., and Jewel Harden-Barrios; her grandchildren Leah, Karlie, Jeancarlo and Kayla; her sister Patricia (Vertiner Jay) Higgins; sister-in-law Angela Davis; former husband, Charles Harden Sr.; her deceased partner’s children, Dr. Karen Mathews and Robin Mathews; and his grandchildren, Lacey Pahren, Sydney (Bruce) Allen, and Mackenzie Pahren. Janet also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family, and friends to cherish her memory.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, February 19 at 10 am followed by a memorial mass at 11 am at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 519 Liscum Dr. Dayton. Flowers may be sent to St. Benedict the Moor Church or memorial donations may be made to Greater Edgemont Community Coalition or St. Benedict the Moor Elementary School.

Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
